Did you know that the most popular place to eat in Japan on Christmas day is Kentucky Fried Chicken? I had to google it when I got back as I wondered why all the statues of Colonel Saunders were dressed up like Santa Claus...

It's a KFC Christmas

Kentucky Fried Festivities

So enjoy your day - celebrate whatever belief of your choice & eat some good chow, be it KFC, turkey, tofurkey or roast beast! We're off to the buffet at the Holiday Inn later which is quite tasty & pretty cheap, then going to see Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr + Jude Law = yumm!!)

Celebrated xmas eve yesterday at White Flint Mall by enjoying a late lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and then caught "The Fantastic Mr Fox" at their theater - glad to finally get a chance to see it before it disappears as I thought it was quite enchanting & just weird & off kilter enough to not be the expected kid's movie. Can anybody do charming cad better than George Clooney? Just love Wes Anderson, feel like watching Life Aquatic but unfortunately my DVDs are in storage.

At first it was difficult to adjust to the hours of my new job, but now I feel I've developed a good eating schedule. I have breakfast every day before work between 10-11am, then pack a small snack for lunch, usually fruit or cereal to eat during my first break (between 2-3pm), and then finally a dinner bento to eat in the evening (6-7pm). I usually feel satisfied enough that I don't need to eat after I get home from work. This is a better system than when I worked as an ALT because I actually have time in the morning to leisurely put my bentos together. Also, the break I took from bento this spring was good for my creativity. I'ma show you how.

For this first week I'm home in the US, one of my goals is to catch up a bit on lj entries. I'll start with food, and then see how far I get with my thoughts on work. First comes bread!

For a while after I had mostly settled down in Tokyo, and before school picked up and my jobs multiplied, I was living a lifestyle pretty ideal for bread making. I had lots of time but no money for hobbies. So I needed something cheap and time consuming, and something to match my new oven. I made bread more often than was truly prudent.

It started snowing last night while [info]kisarazumama and I were watching Avatar and its still coming down, if anything harder than before. I am bummed but will miss [info]scarydavedc and [info]heleneotroy's holiday party tonight but I am way too chicken to try and drive in this and the buses are not running reliably.

Just got in from seeing Avatar - what an amazingly beautiful mind blowing experience... way exceeded any expectations I had, can't wait to see it again! (which may be a bit as the big blizzard started moving in while we were in the theater so I had to drive home very slowly & carefully and may be snowed in for a few days)
